Rolled Sugar Cookies

Hey guys, it's been a while! I'm a mom now! I'm back and ready to share my favorite recipes with my friends and family! This simple roll out cookie recipe is the bomb! I've made sugar cookies before that haven't kept their shape or were too soft and fell apart. I've found the easiest way to roll them out without adding extra flour, is to roll them between two pieces of plastic wrap. I tape it down to my counter.  I have made this recipe countless times over the years and it comes out perfect every single time. My favorite addition is orange zest.

Rolled Sugar Cookies
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of softened butter (2 sticks)
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon of salt
- Zest of half an orange
- 3 cups of sifted all-purpose flour
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Line two large baking sheets with parchment paper. In a large bowl, beat together the sugar and butter until fluffy. Then add the egg and vanilla. Once combined, start adding the flour one cup at a time. Your dough may become a little crumbly, just press it together. I've found the easiest way to roll them out without adding extra flour, is to roll them between two pieces of parchment paper or plastic wrap. I like to tape it down to my counter. Cut into desired shapes and place them on parchment lined baking sheet. Bake them for 10-15 minutes, depending on how thick you made your cookies. They are done when the edges barely start to brown. Let them cool before icing.
